SUNSET VISIONS MALA

The Sunset Visions Mala is a piece that plays on light. Baltic Amber has historically been a coveted substance. It's golden beauty is unmatched in other gems. Made of fossilized plant resin, it is neither a crystal or a mineral, but a biological product of nature. You can feel the life within it when you hold it and the warmth of it feels like it emanates from the substance of the amber itself, not unlike the sun. The spectacular light effects of Labradorite are unique, so much so it has its own term called labradorescence. Discovered in Labrador, there is a legend that when the world was young the Northern Lights were imprisoned in the rocks along the Labrador coastline. One day a mighty warrior was walking along and heard a mysterious sound coming from the rocks, as if someone were calling for help. He struck a rock with his spear as hard as he could and split it in two, allowing the beautiful colored lights inside it to rush upward into the sky. He freed as many of the lights as he could, but could not break every one of the stones. The stones that he was unable to break were destined to forever entrap the “lights” within, which we see today in the shifting color sheen of labradorite.

I decided to pair these two amazing gems in this mala as both are representations of the sky. My most favorite of agates, Laguna Lace Agate reminds me of the various shades and shadows that can be seen upon the landscape at dusk The spectacular Orange Agate guru stone reminds me of the lights of the setting sun.

The Sunset Visions Mala is a hand knotted Mala made with 8 mm genuine Baltic Amber, Labradorite, and Laguna Lace Agate beads totaling 108 in number. A carved Jade top marker and small golden side markers are placed after the 27th positions in the Tibetan style in this piece to gently remind you where you are in your meditation and mantras as well as bring a natural flow to the piece.  The piece is hand knotted and finished with a gorgeous disc shaped Orange Agate guru bead and a custom blended silk tassel handmade by me.
