HOW IT STARTED

In September of 2016, I was researching meditation and mindfulness and came across information on mala meditation. I began searching for a mala, but eventually decided that I could try to create the perfect piece for myself. Within a few days of deciding to undertake the challenge of creating my own mala, I held my first one in my hands, and I had fallen in love with the process of making them. Coupled with my backgrounds in both creative and healing arts, and my lifelong love of stones and crystals, I had found my passion.

My Mission

For me, making a mala is a meditative practice. It also has allowed me to tap into my intuitive side and to trust my path. By connecting with the person I am creating for, I can concentrate on creating a piece that contains the right energy and intention. This is true both for custom pieces, where I know who the piece is being created for and why, and for pieces that I create before they are chosen. I truly believe that every mala comes into creation for a reason and for a specific person. The joy that I have gained from this endeavor has been an incredible gift and it is my desire to help send out love, light, and positive healing into the world.

MALAMALAMA

The word malamalama (pronounced mah-lama-lama) is of Polynesian origin and means not only light, but more specifically light of knowledge and enlightenment. The clarity that comes with enlightenment is what we strive for in mindful practice and is often a lifetime pursuit. It never ends and it is why I was drawn to creating malas. The structure of the mala symbolizes a journey which returns to the beginning and it is up to us to decipher the lessons learned along that path, no matter how many times we've traveled it. However we choose to find our way to being a better person, to help another soul, to be a source of joy, it is a point of light that helps bring brightness to our world. In the end, it is translated as love. Love for ourselves and everything and everyone that surrounds us.

There is a light that shines beyond all things on earth, beyond the highest, the very highest heavens. This is the light that shines in your heart.
— Chandogya Upanishad
